Monmouth County was established in 1675. The county seat is Freehold Borough and as of 2010, Monmouth County is the fifth most populated county in the state. According to the 2010 census, the county has a total area of 665.32 square, of which 70.46% is land and 29.54% is water. Monmouth County is in the top 2% of counties in the United States by wealth and is a mecca for boating and fishing.
Monmouth County has numerous important roads including Routes 9, 18, 33, 34, 35, 36, 66, 70, 71, 79, and 138. Numerous NJ Transit buses crisscross the county and transport hundreds of passengers each day to northern New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia in addition to the NJ Transit railway line which leads to Penn Station.
Among the many highlights to visit in Monmouth County there is the Manasquan Inlet, which connects the Atlantic Ocean with the estuary of the Manasquan River, that serves as the starting point of the Intracoastal Waterway. And, the PNC Bank Arts Center is a modern amphitheatre located in Holmdel Township, New Jersey and hosts many famous performers during the concert series from May to September.
